Mustang Is Now Ford’s Third Brand

For years and years, poor Mustang has had to sit under the harsh oversight of the Ford Brand, playing second fiddle to the likes of Focus, Taurus, Escort, Contour, Fairmont, and even Pinto.

Whenever Mustang wanted to break out with a new model or an energized image, it was stuck with the blue oval somewhere in its flanks or hind end. Through its 57 years, it struggled under the yoke of the four-letter worded master.

But now all has changed. Mustang is free — free to propagate and grow, unfettered by the strict guidelines set down by the Company when it was spawned: “You shall be a 4-seat, sporty car with two doors and a perky engine. You have only one chassis, and though we shall let you have a few body styles, you shall never, ever have 4 doors and capacity for more than 4 people.”

But now Mustang is freed from the doldrums of such a mundane image. Mustang can proudly hang its galloping stallion on all sorts of vehicles. For a start, the directors of the new Mustang Brand sought out something that would be far afield of its 5 generation image — a 4 door SUV. “Now we’re gonna compete for all those families that couldn’t fit into our sporty little beast — we’re going after Soccer Moms”.

Others in the new division’s hierarchy jumped even further on the bandwagon with an even more startling idea. “Let’s make it…
